UNC-Chapel Hill will honor Black History Month with a variety of events in February.

Bernice Johnson Reagon, a civil rights icon and professor of history at American University, will deliver the University-wide Black History Month lecture at 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Sonja Haynes Stone Center Auditorium.

The celebration also features performances by Carolina Chocolate Drops, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Christian McBride and Inside Straight at Memorial Hall on various dates.

“Starting my work here at Carolina at the beginning of Black History Month, I’m very impressed with the number and quality of programs scheduled on campus,” said Taffye Clayton, the new vice provost for diversity and multicultural affairs. “The variety of events, from scholarly lectures to lively performances, reflects the history and contributions of African Americans. I’m looking forward to attending many of them.”
