On May 5-7, the Water Institute at UNC will host the “2014 Water Microbiology Conference,” the first conference at UNC of its kind. The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners to talk about how to better monitor and protect the quality of water, locally and globally.
The conference will focus on a broad range of topics related to the safety of water for drinking, recreation and shellfish harvesting.
The main conference themes are:
- sources of water contamination
- Human exposure
- analytical methods, and
- management and treatment of unsafe water.
The conference is under the direction of an International Advisory Committee led by Al Dufour, senior research microbiologist at US EPA, and an Internal Management Committee led by Mark Sobsey, Kenan Distinguished Professor in UNC’s Gillings School of Global Public Health.
