Two UNC projects focusing on water issues related to UNC’s “Water In Our World” initiative are finalists in the 17th Annual Webby Awards – the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

  • Cast your vote to help the UNC journalism school’s “100 Gallons” digital storytelling project win the Webby in the green website category.
  • Cast your vote for to help senior journalism student Jon Kasbe’s “A Beautiful Waste” video win the Webby in travel and adventure category.

A team of nine UNC journalism students produced “100 Gallons” With funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Carnegie Corp. of New York. They used evocative storytelling and innovative multimedia design to examine the perpetual cycle of water on Earth and people’s complex relationship with water as a resource.

The project was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the “Water In Our World” initiative to produce local and regional topics during summer 2013.

Kasbe’s video is part of the larger “100 Gallons” project. “A Beautiful Waste” follows an urban adventurer who explores the sewer system beneath New York City, documenting his experiences through experimental photography.

Voting in the Webby Awards is open from through April 25. Cast your vote to support UNC.
