Nearly 1,400 Carolina alumni and friends served a grand total of 8,161 hours in honor of the University’s 220th birthday on October 12, 2013.  The event, Tar Heel Service Day, was organized by the University’s General Alumni Association.

Tar Heels rolled up their sleeves in 36 different states and six different countries in a food bank, a classroom, for Habitat for Humanity, on NC’s Mountain-to-Sea Trail, and many other public service projects.  The numbers included:

  • 1,398 alumni and friends
  • 8,161 hours
  • 36 different states
  • 6 different countries
  • 47 unique class years (ranging from 1962-2016).
