An estimated 33,000 graduates, family members and friends filled Kenan Stadium for Sunday’s spring Commencement at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Celebrated surgeon, best-selling author and Commencement speaker Atul Gawande urged the graduates to “put yourself in a place that suits who you are, links you to others, and gives you a purpose larger than yourself in some way.”
A day earlier, Ph.D. candidates were celebrated at the doctoral hooding ceremony at the Dean Smith Center. And, throughout the weekend, individual schools and departments held celebrations to congratulate the UNC Class of 2014.
