For those interested in public service, UNC’s 12th Annual Public Service Fair is the place to be.
Hosted by the Carolina Center for Public Service (CCPS), this free event from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Multipurpose Room is part of an ongoing effort to promote goodwill between UNC and the local community. The fair will showcase 36 local nonprofits interested in sharing public service opportunities and will be held in conjunction with Nourish International’s Hunger Lunch, a $4 all-you-can-eat meal of beans, rice and cornbread.
The event is a collaboration between the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, its Foundation for a Sustainable Community and CCPS. Historically, the Public Service Fair has attracted not only students, but staff, faculty and members of the general public as well. Nonprofits range from the Chapel Hill Fire Department to Kidzu Children’s Museum, to the State Employees’ Credit Union Family House.
“I am glad to see so many groups come together to speak with UNC students,” said Will Thomason ‘12. “Not only is this a great way to engage with undergraduate students, but also to interact with, and potentially collaborate with, other community organizations.”
Jenny Huq, CCPS associate director, said, “I’m very excited for this year’s Public Service Fair and the opportunities it will bring for building partnerships. The hundreds of students who come to meet dozens of representatives of local organizations is a testament to our community’s proud history of involvement.”
