Bruce Runberg, associate vice chancellor for facilities planning and construction, received the Town and Gown award from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce on Dec. 13.
The Town and Gown award is presented to an individual who has fostered a mutually beneficial relationship between the community and the University.
The chamber’s annual Salute to Community Heroes at University Mall honored Runberg and several police officers, firefighters, public employees and volunteers. The awards express the chamber’s commitment to the community and an effort to recognize and encourage volunteerism and selfless service.
Runberg’s achievements include overseeing UNC’s recently completed capital construction program ($2.3 billion and more than 100 projects) and the ongoing development of the University’s new campus at Carolina North. Runberg has also served on the Chapel Hill Planning Board and is currently a board of trustees member for Community Home Trust, which partners with local governments, developers and community members to sell and preserve permanently affordable homes for low- to moderate-income families in Orange County.
