Amateur photography from around the world is on display in an exhibition that features works by UNC students, faculty, staff and alumni.

The photography is part of the 13th annual Carolina Global Photography Competition hosted in fall 2012. The exhibit starts today (Jan. 9) and runs through March 8 at the FedEx Global Education Center.

Awards will be presented to winners on Jan. 30 after a lecture by Ken Harper entitled, “The Power of Your Own Story: Empowering Storytellers In Liberia,” beginning at 6 p.m.  A reception and art viewing will follow.

Special consideration was given to images that are distinctive, defy expectations, embrace a new perspective, showcase the commonality of humanity or illustrate potential solutions to global challenges. There will also be a “Best Water” award for an image that embraces “Water in our World,” UNC’s campus-wide academic theme, as well as a “Chancellor’s Choice” award selected by Chancellor Holden Thorp.
