People traveling on campus on Tuesday should expect delays and road closures between 1 and 4 p.m. during a campaign visit to Chapel Hill by first lady Michelle Obama, who will be speaking at Carmichael Arena.

Due to limited parking availability on UNC’s campus, students, staff and faculty who plan to attend the speech should use their normal weekday parking and transportation arrangements.

For the general public, several parking and transportation options are available, including Town of Chapel Hill parking decks, UNC’s Rams Head Deck (off Ridge Road), the Manning Lot (near the Dean E. Smith Lot), or transportation from Town of Chapel Hill park-and-ride lots. Free shuttles will operate from the Manning Lot on campus to and from Carmichael Arena from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and immediately following Obama’s departure. Parking in the Manning Lot is free to the public. Parking in the Rams Head Deck is $5.

Disability parking and free disability shuttle service will be available from the Rams Head Deck on Ridge Road from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and immediately following the event.

Chapel Hill Transit riders should expect delays and detours with the closure of South Road from Raleigh Street to Country Club Road, between 1 and 4 p.m. All Chapel Hill Transit routes may experience schedule delays throughout the day, and the following routes will be detoured: A, CCX, DX, FCX, G, NU, PX, RU, S, U and V.
