Celebrate Earth Day with two weeks of activities!

Earth Week activities include the NC Science Expo at UNC and Earth Action Day at Southern Community Park in Southern Village on Saturday, April 14.

The student Environmental Affairs Committee will host outdoor exhibits April 16-20, focusing on water conservation, energy management, and waste reduction and recycling. Exhibitors include OWASA, Environment, Health and Safety, SWEAT, Energy Management, the Sustainability Office, the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling, the Bike Share pilot program, Epsilon Eta, and A Drink for Tomorrow.

Lectures include a climate change policy talk by William Pizer, faculty member at Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions and Sanford School of Public Policy, hosted by UNC’s Institute for the Environment, on Tuesday, April 17, at noon. The Kenan-Flagler Business School will host a talk on building a career in sustainability by Tish Lascelle, the Environment, Health and Safety director for Johnson & Johnson, on April 19. Each lecture requires registration to attend.

The NC Botanical Garden will celebrate 50 years of “Silent Spring,” Rachel Carson’s revolutionary exposé of toxic chemical use in the US, with three April events, including a book discussion, morning bird walk, and lecture.

Special Earth Week features include a movie screening of “The Revenge of the Electric Car,” hosted by the Roosevelt Institute, the Sustainability Office, and the Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee, green-theme meals cooked up by Carolina Dining Services, and a Farmers’ Market hosted by FLO Foods.
