Carolina employees proved that Tar Heels Give More last year by raising more than any other campaign for the State Employees Combined Campaign. Organizers hope the Carolina community will donate even more this year and have set a goal of $1 million.

UNC employees donated $894,533 last year. In the first three weeks of this year’s nine-week campaign, Carolina employees have donated $213,897.

Gov. Jim Hunt established the SECC in 1984 to encourage state employees to donate to charities. The charities are reviewed and approved for participation each year. More than 1,000 charities are eligible this year.

“Your gifts to the Carolina Cares charitable giving campaign have promoted positive change in our community and our state, and helped to turn lives around,” says Brenda Malone, vice chancellor for human resources and chair of the Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares campaign.

The Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares campaign began Oct. 2 and continues through Dec. 6. Campaign volunteers are distributing pledge forms and giving guides. Employees also can pledge online through an e-pledge link using their Onyen username and password at http://www.unc.edu/secc/epledge.html.
