“The World Comes Here: Celebrating the Performing Arts at Carolina,” curated by Carolina Performing Arts, will be presented at 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, in Memorial Hall. The event is one part of a four-day weekend to celebrate the installation of Chancellor Carol Folt at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The 90-minute program will feature performances by world-renowned artists and UNC performers, including members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dom Flemons of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran, UNC’s David Garcia and his Charanga Carolina, UNC’s Bhangra Elite and student a cappella group The Clef Hangers, as well as remarks from Folt.
“You cannot tell the story of the University without mentioning the arts and the impact they have on our community,” said Emil Kang, director of Carolina Performing Arts. “We are honored to curate a wonderful evening of performances, both UNC-based and world-renowned, to welcome Folt and to help demonstrate that the arts thrive at UNC.”
